Our new tape machine for the number plate industry applies tape to batches of 100 plates automatically whereas previously they were individually taped by hand.

Our new tape machine for the number plate industry applies tape to batches of 100 plates automatically whereas previously they were individually taped by hand. This tape machine will apply tape to all the various sizes the customer has and auto sets itself with only the appropriate width of tape needed to be fitted. It has paid dividends in production and can be left to tape a whole batch of plates giving the operator time to carry out other duties. The machine is PLC controlled and interface is friendly by using a touch screen panel with clear operator instructions and easily explained steps to follow. The quality of the taping is far superior with scrap being reduced to nearly zero.

This full system was supplied by Aardvark Engineering for board edge taping with full tape system monitoring. Aardvark provided tape heads with twin tape rolls monitored for low level with beam sensors (Top Left) so that when one roll was at a preset minimum level the operator would be audibly warned with a buzzer and appropriate panel display light as to which tape was about to run out and could change over to the adjacent full roll with no loss of time or drop in product quality. The empty roll can now be replaced ready for next time.

The tape heads (centre left) are fully adjustable for pressure by an air regulator and tape position by means of a slide carriage on a vee beam. The proximity sensor registers tape breakage and sounds an alarm to warn the operator to take immediate action.

The operator's panel (Bottom Left) monitors all tape situations and displays appropriate tape warning lights relevant to the area with the tape problem. This custom tape equipment is designed in house for customer's individual requirements.
